Council Encourages Residents to Shop Local

Small Business Saturday will take place on Saturday 2nd December this year and is a national campaign designed to encourage people to shop small.

Now in its 11th year in the UK, the campaign has grown significantly and whilst its roots are in supporting the high-street, the initiative has now widened to support small businesses from all sectors. So whether you are a family business, local shop, online business, wholesaler, business service or small manufacturer, Small Business Saturday is supporting you.

To celebrate this campaign, the Council has chosen a number of small businesses across the Borough and will be showcasing them as part of a social media campaign across the week leading up to the event. These businesses include food vendors, high-street retailers, farm shops and service providers.

Cllr Rob Hawkins, Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Development, said: “It is important to get behind our local businesses as they are at the heart of enterprise across the Borough. They are run by local people, with local knowledge who are passionate about what they do. Even if you can’t get out and shop with them on the day, there are many other ways you can show your support. Maybe go online and write a positive review about a small business that you have had a good experience with, or make the effort to tell your friends and family about them. For those who can shop on the day, the businesses that we are featuring have also kindly offered various promotions to celebrate this campaign. Check out our website and social media for more details.”

East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Enterprise Team supports businesses across the Borough in many different ways, including through its Boosting Business Programme, which is a grant scheme designed to encourage growth in existing businesses or support new start-ups.
