Burton upon Trent reaches RHS “Britain in Bloom” UK Finals

After an outstanding run of 13 consecutive gold medals in the Heart of England in Bloom competition, Burton upon Trent has seen its success rewarded with a place in the RHS Britain in Bloom finals for 2022.

The town, which will represent the midlands region in the Small City category, has built its success upon a reputation for high quality floral displays and community engagement, which in recent years, has seen the Burton upon Trent entry consistently achieve 100% for community participation.

Councillor Bev Ashcroft, Deputy Leader for Leisure, Amenities and Tourism, said: ‘This is an excellent achievement and is testimony to the amount of community gardening projects that are taking place throughout the town. Despite the ongoing challenges presented by the Coronavirus pandemic, the Burton in Bloom federation has managed to continue to maintain an extremely high standard of work throughout the town’.

A number of exciting projects are already under development for 2022, which will include, carpet bed displays and substantial tree planting projects to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. As well as the planting of thousands of wildflower seeds throughout the town to encourage bees and other pollinating insects.

Burtons Heritage will also be celebrated in this year’s entry, through a sculpture trail of Carousel Horses which commemorates the work of Burton based craftsmen George Orton and Charles Spooner who came together to design and produce some of the world’s best fairground rides in the 1890s to the 1950s. Burton upon Trent entries will be judged between the 25th July and 12th August 2022.
