Burton Towns Fund Project D – Stage 2 Consultation Launch

East Staffordshire Borough Council is asking for people's views and ideas on proposals to regenerate and create a new visitor destination for the Town.

Project D is one of seven projects that has been awarded a share of £23.8 million of funding under the Government's Towns Fund Programme.  Creating a future vision for the riverside area, from the Market Place to the Burton Bridge (Trent Bridge), this exciting project will unlock the potential of the Town's heritage and natural assets.

A dedicated project website has been set up for people to find out more about Project D.  A survey on proposals has been launched to collect people's views and will be open until Tuesday 2nd November 2021.

A series of drop-in face to face and virtual consultation sessions will also be taking between 11th and the 29th October 2021.  This will provide an opportunity for people to get more information about the project, speak to the Project Team and ask any questions they may have.  Details of these sessions are due to be published.

Councillor George Allen, Deputy Leader for Regeneration and Planning Policy, said:

"The second stage of consultation on the Towns Fund Project D has just opened, giving local people the opportunity to have their say on this great opportunity to level up Burton Town centre and the waterfront.  The initial call for ideas has been extremely useful and has helped to shape suggestions and priorities for this key area.  We are now asking local people to tell us what they would like to see on different areas: do they like the suggestions or do they have alternative ideas and want to see something different.

The Towns Fund is an exciting opportunity for Burton and this project will transform the gateway to the Washlands, unlocking wider economic and environmental benefits for the town.  I am looking forward to hearing people's views and seeing the plans develop."
