Brewhouse seeking local artists for 30th Anniversary commissions

The Brewhouse Arts Centre is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year and as part of their celebrations is seeking to commission a number of artists to help create both a new installation for our venue, as well as creative online content to engage its audiences.

The Brewhouse Arts Centre is a focal point for the arts both within Burton and throughout the borough. The Brewhouse delivers a range of workshops and events, houses a diverse live theatre programme, as well as being home to a number of fantastic creative community groups. The venue is constantly striving to re-invigorate, attract new audiences and find ways to secure its future as a vibrant and relevant multi-arts centre.

As part of their celebrations the Brewhouse is seeking to commission a new installation and is offering up to 30 ‘mini’ commissions to artists and makers.

Project Brief 1: Venue Installation

The Brewhouse is looking for an artist(s) to work with the Brewhouse Arts Team to create an artwork/installation that will transform the Brewhouse and celebrate the venue, its people and history, and the many cultural activities and events that have taken place at the venue during the last 30 years.

The final artwork is to be installed during the 30th year. The work can be abstract or realistic, and either lots of small installations, or one large piece; whatever your proposal, it should provide a visual spectacle for our customers.

Proposals should, where possible, be family focused, encourage engagement, or tell a story and share the creative and development process online via the Brewhouse website and social media platforms.

The installation can either be permanent/semi-permanent or even mobile, if its purpose is to be regularly displayed at different events. The installation of the artwork must adhere to COVID government guidelines that are in place at the time.

Project Brief 2: Mini Activities Content

The Brewhouse is offering up to 30 ‘mini’ commissions to artists and makers, to take part in the 30th anniversary celebrations to enhance the Brewhouse and tell the story of the venue and communities.

A programme of events and activities is planned throughout 2021 to celebrate the Brewhouse’s 30th birthday. Therefore, the Brewhouse is looking for 30 artists to work with the Brewhouse Arts Team who can create artworks and activities that will encourage people to creatively take part in the celebrations; share stories about the Brewhouse, the venue, its people and history, and the many cultural activities and events that have taken place at the venue during the last 30 years.

The activities and artworks will be specifically designed to be shared online during the 30th anniversary celebrations. The activities can be abstract, realistic, and of any discipline. Whatever your proposal it should celebrate the wider creative sector and where possible be family focused, encourage engagement, or tell a story.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Community and Regulatory Services, said: “This is fantastic opportunity for local artists to contribute to the 30th anniversary of the Brewhouse and help us celebrate the venue, its people and history and the wider community who have enjoyed the Brewhouse over the last 30 years.”

The deadline for applications for both projects in Sunday 28th February and more details on the requirements, outputs and application process can be found on the Brewhouse website at http://www.brewhouse.co.uk/content/artist-opportunity
