Jobs Fair Hailed a Great Success!

Last week’s jobs fair held at Burton and South Derbyshire College has been hailed a great success. The fair welcomed 729 jobseekers across East Staffordshire, putting them in touch with 43 diverse employers from across the borough. 364 applications were submitted, 81 jobseekers were offered an interview and 34 were offered work on the day itself! Furthermore, one jobseeker has already started working for an employer as a direct result of the jobs fair, which took place on Friday 9th March.

Employers promoting job and training opportunities were very positive about the event, especially the high attendance rate, which gave them access to a large number of jobseekers with a broad range of experience and skills. Employers included John Pye auctions, Derbyshire County Council, the Hilton at St George’s park, Siemans and Uttoxeter racecourse to name a few.

Cllr Julia Jessel, Deputy Leader for Regeneration, said: “East Staffordshire Borough Council works in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Support Staffordshire (East Staffordshire Community and Voluntary Service), and Trent & Dove Housing to deliver the Job Opportunity Days. More recently the partnership has welcomed Burton and District Chamber of Commerce to the group.

“The Job Opportunities Days have been running for eight years and these events continue to go from strength to strength. The job fairs offer a range of job opportunities, training opportunities; support towards self-employment; volunteering opportunities and general advice and guidance towards making important lifestyle decisions”.

“These events offer routes to sustainable employment, which will assist in improving the quality of life, raising aspirations and provide a better standard of living to local residents”.

The next East Staffordshire jobs fair will be held at Burton Market Hall on 17th May 2018.  Employers wishing to attend should contact either Jeanette Hines at Job Centre Plus (JEANETTE.HINES@DWP.GSI.GOV.UK) or the Enterprise Team at East Staffordshire Borough Council at enterprise.team@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk or calling 01283 508625.
