Opening of new outbuilding at Richard Wakefield Primary Academy

Wednesday 20th July 2022 saw the opening of a new outdoor school building located at Richard Wakefield Primary Academy, Tutbury.

This exciting new building was formerly opened by local Borough Councillors, Simon Gaskin and Russell Lock.

A highly motivated group, the Richard Wakefield Primary Academy PTA set about transforming a mature outdoor wooded area of the school ground into an exciting environment for children and local groups to experience throughout the year.

As part of this transformation the PTA group applied for the Tutbury Grant Scheme, a scheme with aims to benefit community based projects within a 2 mile radius of Tutbury.

Cllr George Allen, Leader of the Council, said: “The amazing work done at the Richard Wakefield Primary Academy is a perfect example of what can be achieved when community projects take full advantage of the funding available to them. This funding has come as a result of the Heritage Park development and is proof that new homes bring added value to the whole community. I’m sure both the teachers and pupils at the academy are over the moon with their new outbuilding, as they should be!”

The money awarded to the group has helped fund an outdoor building to support a wonderful learning environment for the younger generation. The PTA group have worked tirelessly to create this environment, with this new building being used as an outside classroom, helping them to discover and learn about the outdoor environment.
