East Staffordshire Borough Council has recruited a Mobile CCTV Enforcement Officer alongside the introduction of mobile CCTV cameras to clampdown on those fly tipping in the Borough.
The cameras will be located at well-known hotspot areas to target those found to be offending and in response to requests from members of the public, partnership agencies and other service users. The cameras are able to record daily for 24 hours and can rapidly be moved around the Borough as a deterrent to any potential fly tipping offenders and other forms of Anti-Social Behaviour.
The Council is committed to making East Staffordshire a safer and cleaner place to live and work and the cameras will help to identify those responsible for illegally dumping rubbish and hold them to account. Footage can be used in Court as evidence to support prosecution cases and enforcement action will be taken against anyone found to be offending.
Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Community and Regulatory Services, said:
“Fly-tipping is a real nuisance – it’s unsightly, it can pose health risks to wildlife and people, and it costs time and money to clean up. We’re hoping the use of these cameras will help us to catch and prosecute offenders and reduce incidents of fly-tipping and antisocial behaviour around the borough. We’d like residents to help us by letting us know about problem locations within their community that may benefit from the use of a camera.
“It’s also important to remember that we’re ultimately all responsible for our own waste, and must ensure anyone privately employed has a waste carrier’s licence issued by the Environment Agency. Please get a receipt with the name and address of the company taking the waste and make a note of the registration number of the vehicle used. Alternatively you can use ESBC’s bulky waste service.”
