Levelling Up Fund Consultation Launches

East Staffordshire Borough Council is looking for public feedback on a longlist of 11 intervention themes that could be considered for the Council’s bid to the second round of the Levelling Up Fund (LUF2) on 6th July 2022.

The list comprises themes that have been put forward by Councillors, focusing investment in Burton upon Trent and picking up on previous consultations through the Towns Fund projects. The interventions are high level at this stage in order to confirm which areas investment should be prioritised in, before detailed work is undertaken on developing proposals through the LUF2 programme.

The proposal list includes:

  • Market Place regeneration
  • Investment in the Market Hall
  • High Street Linkages project Phase 2
  • Shopfront improvement scheme around the Market Place
  • Town Centre lighting scheme
  • A new live evening entertainment facility
  • Ferry bridge enhancement
  • Clay Mills junction improvement*
  • Washlands bridge (smaller scheme)*
  • Public art scheme
  • Additional facilities at Shobnall Leisure Centre

*please note that these interventions are transport based and so would require the County Council to consider including them in their bid.

The Leader of the Council, Councillor George Allen, said:

“The Levelling Up Fund presents an exciting opportunity for the area and it’s imperative that our bid represents something that will have a positive impact on the town and represents the ambitions of our residents.

“We’re looking for as many responses as possible from residents so that we can build a strong bid for this competitive fund and bring further investment into the town to regenerate it for the future.”

The consultation runs until 12noon on Tuesday 31st May and can be accessed through the Council’s website.

This is a short survey designed to ask residents to rank the intervention themes in order of most preferred (1) to least preferred (11).
