ESBC to suspend parking charges during Coronavirus pandemic

East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced that it is temporarily suspending car parking charges due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The temporary suspension to parking charges will apply to all Council operated car parks across East Staffordshire.

Councillor Bernard Peters, Deputy Leader for Regulatory Services and Community Support, said: “It is very important we isolate the pay stations in our car parks to avoid the possibility of any cross contamination in the context of the Coronavirus circumstances. This will safeguard the public and key workers who have to use our car parks. Action has been taken in support of reducing use of coins, collection of monies and protecting our staff from unnecessary exposure.

“This action now means free car parking in East Staffordshire for the foreseeable future.”

The Council has also made the decision to defer the car park tariff increase due to be in place from 1st April 2020 and has delayed the implementation and launch of its parking payments mobile app.
