Consultation on new Housing Strategy

East Staffordshire Borough Council is consulting on a new draft Housing Strategy and asking residents for their comments.  The deadline for receiving comments is Wednesday 28th October, 2020.

The Housing Strategy sets the Council’s priorities for housing for the period of 2021-2025.  It will promote housing supply, bring more empty homes back into use, maximise housing options for people on a low income and secure suitable housing for people with vulnerabilities.

Tied to the Borough’s Local Plan which runs to 2031, the Strategy recognises the role of housing associations, developers, private landlords, third sector organisations, statutory services and others in delivering the housing needed in East Staffordshire.

The Council holds a pivotal role in maintaining the Housing Register, in agreement with Housing Associations and, through planning regulations can ensure new housing developments continue to build affordable housing.

Councillor Ray Faulkner, Deputy Leader for Environment and Housing, said: “The Council has a responsibility to maintain the Housing Register for East Staffordshire and the Housing Strategy is an important document.  It is crucial residents are consulted and I would encourage residents to submit their comments before the consultation deadline.”

The final date for responses is Wednesday October 28th, 2020 and should be sent to HousingStrategy@eaststaffsbc.gov.uk.
