Residents in East Staffordshire are being invited to stand with others from around the country to honour the men and women currently serving, or who have served, in the armed forces at a special flag raising ceremony this month.
On Monday, June 25th at 10.30am, East Staffordshire Borough Council will be joining other local authorities across Britain to raise a specially designed Armed Forces Day flag.
The ceremony marks the start of a week of preparations that will culminate with the country’s seventh Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 30th.
Mayor of East Staffordshire, Councillor Chris Smith, will be joined by The Friends of the Mercian Regiment, fellow Councillors and Aldermen for the ceremony.
Cllr Smith said: “Armed Forces Day is a day of remembrance and thanks to all the armed forces and their families and to show our support for them all in the work that they do throughout the world.
“I am privileged and very proud to play a small part in these ceremonies, by being able to have the freedom to honour all who have risked their lives for us, and to show our thanks to the heroes who have given the ultimate sacrifice for us and our country.”
