Statutes Fair

History of the Statutes Fair

The Burton Statutes Fair has been running in some shape or form for many centuries. It takes place in the autumn of each year on the first Monday and Tuesday after Michaelmas – usually starting on the first Monday in October.

Over the years it has changed from a primarily hiring fair, where labourers were hired for the coming year, to the amusement fair that we have today.

The Statutes Fair, which will be operated by Pat Collins Fun Fairs, will take place on both Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October 2022 in the Market Place and the surrounding areas of High Street, Lichfield Street and New Street.

The Fair will be open to the public from 12:00pm until 11:00pm on both Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th October.

The Fairground staff will start building the fair on Sunday 2nd October at 2:00pm.

Road and car park closures will be in position from 12 midday on the 2nd October until 6am on Wednesday 5th October, allowing the funfair to close, and clear, and the streets to be swept and allow normal business to continue.

Road closures include:

  • Market Place – Closed to all traffic
  • High Street - Closed to through traffic from its junction with Station Street to Lichfield Street.
  • New Street - Closed to through traffic from its junction with High Street to its junction with Union Street
  • Lichfield Street - Closed to traffic from its junction with High Street to its junction with Bond Street
  • Abbey Street - Closed to traffic from its junction with Lichfield Street to its junction with Fleet Street
