The primary function of the Financial Management Unit (FMU) are:
- The preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts
- The preparation of the Medium term Financial Strategy (3 year budget)
- Budgetary control (monitoring income and expenditure against budget)
- The preparation and monitoring of the 3 year Capital Programme
FMU also provides a number of other important services, as follows:
- Provision of financial information and advice
- Capital accounting
- Treasury Management
- Monitoring of externally funded projects
- Council Insurances
- Risk management
- Preparation of Government and other returns (eg VAT)
- Maintenance of financial information system
- Arrangement of car loans for employees
