Pay Your Council Tax
Do I have to pay the full amount at once?
If you receive a Council Tax bill in March for the full financial year, you will begin with an entitlement to pay that bill by 10 equal monthly instalments. If you receive a bill later in the financial year you will be entitled to fewer instalments, depending on the date.
We have two instalment dates: either 1st of each month or 15th of each month. Please allow at least 3 working days for your payments to reach us if you pay via Payzone, a bank, building society or post office.
Your payment must reach the council on or by your instalment date.
The following methods of payment are available to you:
1. By Visa, MasterCard, Switch, Solo or Delta card (Credit cards are subject to a 1.6% administrative fee)
- Use our Online Payment Facility
- Telephone our 24 hour service on (01283) 508223
- In person at the Customer Services Centre, Market Place, Burton upon Trent or The Library, Uttoxeter every Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm.
2. By Direct Debit -
- There are strict guarantees with this method of payment, including advance notice of any change in the amount of your instalments. If the authority collects a payment in error, you will receive a refund immediately.
- If your bill states “Payment by Direct Debit”, your payments will be collected on the dates shown and you do not need to take any further action.
- If you wish to pay by this method then you can sign up for Direct Debit over the telephone. Just contact our Council Tax Team on (01283) 508030 and have your bank details ready.
- Alternatively you can print off the Direct Debit form, complete, sign and return it to us. We must receive the form at least 14 days before the next instalment is due, and all outstanding instalments should be brought up to date.
3. In Person
From 28th March 2008 you will no longer be able to pay your council tax in person either at the Town Hall or Trent and Dove office at Uttoxeter. You can now pay at Payzone points in 70 outlets within the East Staffordshire area.
4. By Post
- You can post your payment to:
Revenues Team
PO Box 8045
Burton upon Trent
DE14 9JG
- Please write the Account number shown on the front of your bill on the back of your cheque or postal order, made payable to “ESBC”.
- Receipts will only be given if requested and if your bill is sent with the payment.
5. Telephone/PC banking/Direct Credit or Standing Order
- Your bank will need the following information:
- Our Bank is The Royal Bank of Scotland, 38-41 Station St, Burton upon Trent, DE14 1AX
- Our Bank Sort Code is 16-14-70
- Our Bank Account number is 10028206
- You will also need to quote your Account number, which is shown on the front of your bill.
If payment is not received in accordance with your bill, recovery action will be taken. This could result in your right to pay by instalments being cancelled and the balance of the full year’s charge becoming payable. Information about our recovery action can be found in the Council Tax Summons page
