Changes to bin collection routes in East Staffordshire

In recent years, housing growth across the Borough has placed an increasing pressure on East Staffordshire Borough Council’s waste collection service. To address this and to ensure that we continue to make the best use of our resources, the Council has carried out a comprehensive review of its waste collection routes. This will mean that from March 2018 the collection vehicles will be following new routes and that some residents will experience a change to their collection day.

Councillor David Leese, Deputy Leader for Environment, said: “Collecting waste from over 50,000 properties each week represents a significant challenge to the Council and we recognise how vital this service is to our residents. We have carried out this review to ensure that the service can remain both reliable and cost-effective, ensuring that our refuse vehicles follow the most efficient routes and keeping our fuel usage to a minimum.

“It is important that residents understand that the Council is not changing the frequency of collections. The majority of residents will still have their residual waste (grey bin) collected one week and their garden waste (brown bin), dry recycling (blue bin) and paper (blue bag) collected the following week.”

Over the next two weeks, tags will be placed on the bins to advise residents that the changes will be taking place next year. A list of frequently asked questions have been published on the Council’s website at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/bins-rubbish-recycling/bin-changes-faq.

All residents will be issued with a new Collection Calendar in January 2018. The calendars will be delivered through each household letter box and residents will be asked to keep these safe for future reference. These calendars are important as they will indicate which day households should present their bins for collection. The changes will not come into effect until March 2018. Further copies of these calendars will also be available on the Council’s web site at www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk from March.
