Registration For Swimathon 2017 Is Now Open

Take your marks.... Swimathon is back at Meadowside LC on Sunday 9th April 2017 for the 30th year! This is your lane. Your challenge. Your chance to make lives better by raising money for Marie Curie.

As the world’s biggest fundraising swimming event, you can jump in the pool and make a difference! Swimathon's 30th anniversary will include many celebrations online and around the pool on event weekend.

You can choose to take on 1.5k, 2,5k or 5k or, with the SimplySwim challenge, do your own distance in your own time. You could even form a relay team to tackle the 1.5k and 5k distances with your water-loving friends. Whatever you do, the money you raise will help people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Entry online is available at https://goo.gl/Y6wmuE

Brand New Creche & Coffee Drop In Sessions - Starting Feb 2017

Planned changes will offer a more versatile crèche service at Meadowside LC from Monday 6th February 2017.

This will see the removal of supervised sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays - to be replaced with an open drop in style session for parents to allow children to make use of the soft play area whilst parents enjoy a catch up and a hot drink in the nearby break out area.

The new sessions will start from Monday 6th February and run on Mondays and Wednesdays (all other days / sessions remain unaffected at present). Parents can drop in to the crèche on the new session days anytime between 9am and 4pm - no session time limit.

Entry costs just £2.00 for under 2's and £4.00 for children over the age of 2. Parents must stay in the crèche whilst children are using the facilities and can enjoy the complimentary tea and coffee provided.

Bretby Rotary Club to hold 'Spring Rotathlon' at Meadowside LC

On Sunday April 30th, the Rotary Club of Bretby is again holding their ‘Spring Rotathlon’ challenge this year to raise funds for Rotary President Christine Ball’s nominated charities, Donna Louise and Rainbows Children’s Hospices. As well as raising sponsorship for these two very worthy causes, competitors can also raise funds for their own good cause. This could be another charity or a local club or organisation which also needs funds - a sports, youth or other activity club needing to buy new equipment, for example, or for any other purpose.

The Rotathlon, organised in conjunction with ESBC’s Sports & Leisure Department will be held at the Meadowside Leisure Centre. The three events are;

  • Swimming 400m (16 lengths) in the pool
  • Cycle 5 km on a cycling machine
  • Run 1500m around an outside course on the Washlands

Contestants, who must be aged 14 or above and who must have parental approval if under 18, are asked to obtain a minimum of £50 in sponsorship to complete the challenge, which will be donated via the Rotary Club to the 2 hospices. Sponsorship raised above the minimum of £50 will be split 50/50 between the 2 hospices and another charity, club or organisation of the contestant’s choice; it can, of course, also be donated to the 2 hospices. Times achieved for each discipline will be totalled and all entrants will receive certificates showing their times and the amount they have raised. There is an entry fee of £10 per person, to cover running costs. To find out more and/or to request an entry pack please contact:
