Council promoted to the Premier League for Loo of the Year

East Staffordshire Borough Council has been promoted to the Premier League following the 2016 ‘Loo of the Year’ awards.

The ‘Loo of the Year’ awards, introduced in 1987, offers awards for a variety of categories ranging from ‘Loo of the Year’ to ‘Changing Places toilet entries’.

Bradley Street and Bramshall Park in Uttoxeter, Duke Street in Tutbury and Stapenhill Gardens in Burton upon Trent all received a gold award and the outcome resulted in East Staffordshire Borough Council joining the Premier League.

Ranking in the Premier league is hotly contended by local authorities. Those authorities positioned in the Premier League demonstrate a commitment in providing public toilets at an award winning standard.

Councillor Patricia Ackroyd, Deputy Leader for Enterprise and Environment, said: “I’m delighted that our public toilets have been recognised at the ‘Loo of the Year’ awards.

“Over the past three years the Council has undertaken an extensive public toilet renovation programme across Burton, Uttoxeter and Tutbury and it’s great to see that this work has been recognised.

“However we will not be resting on our laurels and we will continue to work hard to maintain the standard that has been set.”
