Burton to Host Market Garden Festival

Burton can look forward to a brand new festival this May with the very first Market Garden event coming to the Market Square, Friars Walk and Burton Library on Saturday 27th May, from 12pm to 8pm.

This fun family festival of all things green is packed full of things to do and see. Family activities run from 12pm till 4pm, with activities such as; forest bathing, willow weaving, kid’s crafts, bug hunts, fascinating talks and more.

The event will host a number of stalls and activities, including a 10x10 meter ‘Carbon Bubble’ where visitors can learn about the small steps they can take to reduce their carbon footprint and become climate change heroes.

The Horticultural team will also have a stall, giving away free salad pots to teach children about vegetable growing, healthy eating and the town’s beautiful floral work.

This new event is in partnership with Microbrew radio, Burton and South Derbyshire College, Yvie’s Imaginarium and Burton Library, and has talks from organisations such as The Globe Foundation and Sinai house.

Micro Brew Radio, Burton’s digital radio station, will be your live stage-side audio guide to the Market Garden, playing music and interviewing acts and exhibitors all day long! From 4:15pm till 8pm they have booked an all acoustic line-up, featuring local women in the music industry. Hugo’s Bar will be supplying cocktails all night, alongside a host of hot food stalls.

Looking to support local businesses and purchase a sustainable gift? Yvie’s Imaginarium has partnered with Burton Library to deliver monthly craft fairs. Tania Kerr, owner of Yvie’s Imaginarium, said: “We are pleased to be joining the Market Garden in their celebration of all things green and sustainable. The Burton Library Green Fair will showcase local makers, businesses and organisations who create or work using sustainable and ethical production or practices.”

A spokesperson for Burton and South Derbyshire College, said: “We have several groups of learners who will be involved in the event on 27th May, undertaking a range of activities as part of their work experience. Lots of learners have volunteered to raise awareness of such issues and to help make an impact.”
