Climate change adaption
How will the local climate change?
The UK Climate Projections 2009 predict that in the future the climate of Staffordshire will experience hotter, drier summers and warmer wetter winters and more extreme weather events such as flooding and high winds.
Although these changes are over the medium to longer-term, we may already start to see the increase in extreme weather and it is important to plan now to limit the risks and maximise any opportunities these changes may bring.
East Staffordshire Borough Council has started to consider how our services and residents may be affected in the future.
Following a Local Climate Impacts Profile (LCLIP) exercise which examined how the borough and Council services has been affected over the last decade by extreme weather events, we have now drawn up an Adaptation Plan to start assessing various climate change associated risks and impacts in order to avoid or minimise their risks.
