Financial management responsibilities

The primary function of the Financial Management Unit (FMU) are:

  • The preparation of the annual Statement of Accounts
  • The preparation of the Medium term Financial Strategy
  • Budgetary control (monitoring income and expenditure against budget)
  • The preparation and monitoring of the Capital Programme

FMU also provides a number of other important services, as follows:

  • Provision of financial information and advice
  • Capital accounting
  • Treasury Management
  • Monitoring of externally funded projects
  • Council Insurances
  • Risk management
  • Preparation of Government and other returns (eg VAT)
  • Maintenance of financial information system
