Sport has played a big part in establishing the original Burton / Lingen twinning and many personal friendships have been strong for 24 years. Under 18s Football Teams, from the Burton League and Burton Albion take part in the Lingen Easter tournament. Teams from other countries also compete.

Likewise Uxbridge Table Tennis Club has visited Lingen every year since the start of the twinning. The Easter Table Tennis Tournament in Lingen was at one time the biggest in Northern Germany. Burton members winning individual events and trophies regularly.

It is very rare to visit either Burton or Lingen Regattas without meeting members at each from the other. Judo has also played a very important part in our shared sporting achievements over the years.

The nearby man made lake is the ideal venue for many water sports as well as skate boarding, cycling and walking. Within the area around the lake is a hostel used by many visiting groups as a base from which to explore the surrounding Countryside.
