Rotary is a service organisation, united worldwide to help those in need. The Bretby club supports projects and charities in both local and international communities.
The Twinning Association has given considerable support over the years to facilitate one of the major international ventures of the club, namely the formal twinning arrangement between the Rotary Clubs of Bretby and Lingen, that began in 1993. The clubs meet at each other’s venues biannually to further international relations, participate in fellowship, have great fun and at the same time plan and initiate joint service projects.
These projects have included supporting an orphanage in Poland, and, arranging exchange visits for young people to gain work experience in each other’s country. During the annual weekend exchange visit from their twin club, the home club is responsible for hosting their visitors and for arranging a programme of cultural and social activities.
The grants received by Bretby from the Twinning Association are of great help in meeting the high costs of transport for the programme of visits arranged for the Germans when they come to Burton, and on the alternate years for the Bretby Rotarians when travelling to Lingen
