Concessionary Travel / Bus Pass Scheme - Frequently Asked Questions

Eligible aged residents and disabled people under the age of 60 who are identified in the Bus Pass Act 2007 can enjoy free travel throughout England thanks to a new style of bus pass.

The new concessionary travel pass gives older and disabled people free off-peak bus travel across England.

The passes also incorporate ITSO 'smartcard' technology to boost the roll out of 'smart ticketing'. This helps minimise fraud and ensure that the number of journeys made by pass-holders are accurately recorded for reimbursement purposes between local authorities and bus operators.

In areas like East Staffordshire - where buses are not yet fitted with smartcard readers - the cards are shown to the driver as a traditional flash card upon boarding.

The way that you get your bus pass is changing.

From April 2011, Staffordshire County Council will be dealing with your application.

From 6th October 2010 anyone who reaches the age of 60 will not be eligible for a bus pass until 6 May 2011 and therefore it will not be issued via East Staffordshire customer service centres. You will not need to apply for your pass until March 2011

Residents can go to either Burton or Uttoxeter library to get a bus pass.

More information can be found on Staffordshire County Councils concessionary travel page.
