The British Planning system does not have a specific policy of zoning broad areas of land for specific uses in the way that American planning does but the process of good planning will involve the careful choice of sites for specific uses such as employment or housing. These ‘allocations’ appear in Local Plans - part of the Development Plan for each County or Unitary area. In the past there have been Simplified Planning Zones (set up in line with Planning Policy Guidance Note 5 - Simplified Planning Zones) though these are now rarely used. The government has proposed as part of the ‘Delivering Through Planning’ agenda, the introduction of Business Planning Zones to assist in a number of situations in providing a flexible planning regime.
No ‘zones’ have been proposed within East Staffordshire though allocations for housing and employment have made to meet the adopted Structure Plan targets. If you have a query about housing or Employment allocations within East Staffordshire please contact the Local Plans Section .
