The East Staffordshire Local Plan 1986-2001 was adopted in March 1999. A review of this plan commenced in April 2000 with the publication of an Issues Paper. Below is a time-line of the main stages leading to adoption of the East Staffordshire Local Plan 2001-2011.

- LP Review 1st Deposit Plan consultation period started: February 2001
- LP Review 2nd Deposit Plan consultation period started: August 2004
- Pre-Inquiry Meeting: October 2004
- Local Plan Enquiry: January 2005
- Formal Closure of Enquiry: December 2005
- Receipt of Inspectors Report: February 2006
- Modifications Consultation Period Started: March 2006
- Adoption: July 2006
Formal adoption of the East Staffordshire Local Plan 2001-2011 took place on Thursday 20th July 2006.
Please note that the Proposals Maps which form part of the Adopted Local Plan and the Local Plan Review First Deposit have not been reproduced online. These can be viewed during office hours at the Town Hall, King Edward Place, Burton on Trent and at the Midland Grain Warehouse, Station Street, Burton on Trent. Copies of both plans are also available at Barton under Needwood Library, Uttoxeter Library and Burton Library.
