Healthy Communities and Older People: Overview

The Health and Well being Board has the following objectives taken from the terms of reference agreed earlier this year

The board will be responsible for delivering the health improvement and health inequalities elements of the Local Strategic Partnership,  and will also try to ensure that all strategies and action plans are properly integrated and reflect health improvement targets.

Specifically the Board will exercise strategic oversight over the district delivery plan for the “improved health and sense of well being” block of the Staffordshire LAA.  Strategic oversight includes

  • Ensuring proper coordination and communication between County and East Staffordshire LAA structures
  • Monitoring progress against local targets
  • Ensuring action is planned to address under performance
  • Setting up and empowering local action groups to deliver elements of the agreed strategy
  • Monitoring progress against other locally agreed targets

The Board has now set up a sub group to concentrate on the specific health needs of the black and  minority communities in East Staffordshire.  This group will

  • Gather together relevant data on the characteristics of East Staffordshire BME communities
  • Identify the particular health and well being needs of East Staffordshire BME communities
  • Promote equality of access to services for East Staffordshire BME communities
  • Contribute to the delivery of the objectives of the LAA and Sustainable Community Strategy as these relate to the health and well being needs of East Staffordshire BME communities
  • Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings of front line development workers across relevant services
  • Encourage meaningful strategic engagement and understanding and work to breakdown organisational boundaries
  • Raise matters of concern, that the group is unable to resolve, with the East Staffordshire Health and Well being Board

This group is Chaired by Jeannette Knapper, District Manager Social Care and Health. Membership of the group will be drawn from partners as necessary to achieve the objectives.
