The Food Safety Team is here to ensure that food produced and sold within East Staffordshire is safe to eat. Food Safety legislation is enforced in a wide range of businesses, from corner shops to large supermarkets; from takeaways to food factories. These pages give guidance to food businesses on how to comply with legislation, as well as advice and assistance to people at home who have questions or problems with food safety.
Our main areas of activity are:
- Food hygiene and health and safety inspections
- Reports are published on www.ratemyplace.org.uk and ratings out of five stars are awarded
- Dealing with complaints about food and food businesses
- Investigating possible cases of food poisoning and infectious disease and preventing their spread
- Promoting food safety and healthy eating
- Advising local businesses about food safety issues and nutrition
- Training of food workers in good practice and legal compliance when handling food
- We also carry out health and safety inspections of food businesses. For further information on workplace health and safety, please visit our health and safety website or the Health and Safety Executive
Each year we:
-
Inspect 730 food businesses
-
Receive around 700 requests for service and over 1000 telephone calls
-
Investigate over 100 accidents and food poisoning incidents
-
Take over 120 food samples and have them analysed for safety
We do all of this across 1100 local food businesses and 103,000 Borough residents
More detailed information in relation to our work can be found in the food safety Service Plan and Enforcement Policy
