The National Buy Recycled campaign was developed by LARAC, the Local Authority Advisory Committee. The campaign aims and objectives are
- To encourage increased participation and support for recycling schemes
- To raise awareness to recycled products and packaging with recycled content
- To inform the public of the availability and quality of products and packaging that are recycled or contain recycled content
- To achieve an environmental closed loop system by means of a standardized Buy Recycled logo
- To close the recycling loop using the campaign slogan: Buy It, Recycle It, Buy Recycled.
Why should you buy recycled?
- Grows markets for reclaimed materials
- Reduced the amount of materials going into our diminishing landfill sites
- Conserves the earths natural resources and energy
- Creates jobs
- Good environmental practice
Tips to help you buy recycled.
- Try to reduce, reuse and recycle your waste at all times
- Take a look fresh look at what you buy and the possibilities for reducing your overall waste
- Avoid purchasing over packed items. Do you need to buy individually wrapped items? Could you buy in bulk? Is the packaging made from recycled material?
- Look out for products like recycled toilet paper, kitchen rolls, tissues, bin bags and writing paper
- Recycle your rags as dusters or cloths instead of buying new.
- Don’t use paper cups and plates. Hire some in if you are having a party
- Choose longer life, energy efficient and rechargeable products
- Use your customer power in the work place too. Make sure your office is using recycled paper.
