The Council does not own any housing itself. However the Council has rights to nominate to homes owned by Housing Associations. It does this by sharing
The East Staffordshire Allocations Policy with partners and by an agreement with Trent & Dove Housing that it will make nominations on behalf of the Council.
The allocations policy gives priority to people in housing need. Housing Association tenants in East Staffordshire who want to move (down-size) from a house to a flat or bungalow are also given priority, so if you rent a Housing Association house in East Staffordshire which is too big for you, why not join the housing register and then choose yourself a flat or bungalow. You benefit by getting a home you like which is easier to look after and which saves you money on rent and heating. The Borough benefits because it makes your house available for a family which needs it. Some Housing Associations will even pay for your move.
