Health and Safety at Work
Welcome to East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Commercial Team's health and safety pages. It is our aim to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of people who work and visit the Borough of East Staffordshire.

Regulation and Inspection
The Commercial Team within the Environmental Health Division carry out a wide range of duties to ensure that health and safety plays a key role in the operation of businesses that are based in East Staffordshire.
The primary piece of legislation applied to this area is the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.

East Staffordshire Borough Council enforce legal standards in a wide range of premises, generally speaking they are responsible for:
- Offices
- Catering
- Warehouse/ distribution
- Hotels/ bed and breakfast
- Retail - including shops, hairdressers, skin pierces, tyre and exhaust centres and builders merchants
- Leisure facilities - hotels, gyms and swimming pools (not Local Authority run)
- Other premises - places of worship, pet shops and riding stables
