 Brighter Borough Gardening Competition

Brighter Borough Gardening Competition

Brighter Borough The Brighter Borough gardening competition is run by East Staffordshire Borough Council every year. Local residents, schools, businesses, community groups and local councillors can enter their gardens into the competition and they are judged in July.

The competition is an important part of our entries into the Heart of England in Bloom campaign as it shows that local people care about their gardens and their local environment and play a vital part in making East Staffordshire a lovely place to live, work and visit.

There are lots of different categories that people can enter including the best front garden, the best back garden, the best vegetable garden, the best floral feature, the best display at a place of worship, the best community garden and many more. There are also special categories so that our local Parish, Borough and County Councillors can get involved.

Every entry receives an award using the same system that the Royal Horticultural Society use and the awards are bronze, silver, silver gilt and gold. The judges use a scoring system and points are awarded with the highest scoring entry in each category being the category winner.

Every entry receives a certificate and the category winners and gold award winners are invited to a presentation ceremony in September where category winners and winners of judges’ discretionary awards are presented with trophies.

We have now launched the Brighter Borough competition for 2012 so if you have got a garden or feature that you are proud of then now’s the time to enter. The closing date for entries is 1st June 2012 and judging will take place between 2nd and 13th July. There are categories for domestic gardens, community gardens, businesses, schools and councillors so everyone can get involved.
