Equality Monitoring
What is equality monitoring?
Equality monitoring is the collection and analysis of information on people’s personal characteristics, such as age, gender or religion or belief.
Why do we collect equality monitoring information?
We collect equality monitoring information to allow us to know who is, and who is not, using services provided by the Council, applying for jobs, and working for us. It can help us to understand whether services are meeting the needs of residents and visitors, and whether our employment practices recruit and retain staff from all communities. We can use this information to identify, and take action on, any gaps or inequalities.
Do I have to answer the questions?
The equality monitoring questions are completely voluntary. You can choose to answer some of the questions but not all, or choose the ‘prefer not to say’ option. Personal information will be kept confidential and information will only be used for statistical purposes. All the information that you provide helps us to make services better.
What is the information used for?
With this information we can:
- Understand whether our services and policies are inclusive and if there are any gaps in service use
- Understand the numbers of people using our services from different communities and what outcomes they experience
- Understand the extent to which we provide a fair service.
