Unauthorised Encampments
The Council have powers to evict unauthorised encampments from any Council owned land.
When we become aware of an unauthorised encampment on Council land, we will follow our procedure (which is in accordance with legal requirements) to enable us to take the appropriate action. Initially we will make a visit to the site to establish and collate relevant information.
The Council can make an application to the County Courts for an Order to reclaim the land. If the Judge grants an Order it must then served on the unauthorised encampment and displayed on the land they occupy. The Order will give a date by which the unauthorised encampment are required to leave the land.
The Council does not act on behalf of private landowners. However, the Enforcement Team will offer advice to landowners who experience problems with unauthorised encampments.
