The problem ....
- When coal, oil or gas are burned to heat your water, this emits a great deal of CO2 into the atmosphere – this is the main cause of Climate Change
- Gas and coal are burned at the power stations to create electricity to power your electric boilers
What can I do ....
- This is the process of heating up your water in a sustainable way that creates less carbon emissions
- Insulating your homes to reduce the heat loss will save the heat and energy use around the house, allowing you to turn your heating down and reduce the CO2 emissions
- Turn down the temperature of your hot water at the central heating boiler, at the immersion tank
- Don’t waste energy heating water - only to add cold water to cool it down to use
- Take a quick shower rather than a bath – a power shower uses as much water as a bath in five minutes
- Don’t leave hot water taps running – use the plug
- Fix leaking taps as soon as possible
- Buy a timer for the immersion heater so that water is only heated when you need it
- Insulate your boiler and pipes
- Use an insulating jacket for your boiler
- lag your pipes
