The problem ....

  • Energy used to power a dishwasher and heat its water comes from power stations which have burned coal, gas and oil to generate it, producing CO2 in the process
  • Water Companies use energy to process and supply water to your home

What can I do ....

  • When washing dishes by hand, wash the cleaner items first rinsing with cold water
  • If you use a dishwasher – fill it fully before using it
  • Wash up pans in the sink as they take up valuable room in the dishwasher
  • Use the economy or eco programme if your dishwasher has one
  • Switch the dishwasher off and open the door when the dishwasher reaches its drying phase
  • Don't wash up with the tap running - use a plug!
