The problem ....

  • Using artificial fertilisers and pesticides in your garden increases the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere. They are derived from oil and the manufacture is very energy intensive
  • Water use on the garden is very energy intensive, if the water is obtained from the mains supply, the water companies will have generated the electricity to provide the water to your home via a power station.
  • Both petrol and electric garden implements, add CO2 to the atmosphere, either directly from the use of petrol, or indirectly though the electricity supply

What can I do ....

  • Use organic compost or fertilisers to feed your garden
  • Use a watering can as oppose to a hose pipe
  • Collect rain water from your roof in a water butt
  • Plant plants close together and plant draught resistant varieties to cope with the lack of water
  • Keep gutters free of leaves
  • Create compost
  • Grow food instead of plants, or grow vegetables in between your plants
