The problem ....

  • Using Gas or oil to cook with, creates CO2, which is the main cause of Climate Change
  • Using electricity to cook with, has created carbon dioxide, through burning the gas, oil or coal at the power station to create the electricity

What can I do ....

  • Cut food into smaller pieces and select appropriately sized cooking pans for your use
  • Put a lid on top of the pan when cooking
  • Use a steamer for vegetables
  • Consider using a pressure cooker, or a slow cooker instead of an electric or gas oven. These both considerably reduce food cooking energy
  • Make ‘One-pot’ meals in the same pan – using only one ring
  • Use your oven efficiently by filling up the space
  • Cook two days worth of meals at once
  • Use the grill rather than the oven
  • Food cooks quicker on the top shelf of a non-fan-assisted oven
  • Use an electric kettle for boiling water, keep it free of limescale and don’t over fill it!
  • Make toast in a toaster rather than the grill
  • Plan ahead – get ready made meals out of the freezer giving time for them to defrost
