The problem ....
- Using Gas or oil to cook with, creates CO2, which is the main cause of Climate Change
- Using electricity to cook with, has created carbon dioxide, through burning the gas, oil or coal at the power station to create the electricity
What can I do ....
- Cut food into smaller pieces and select appropriately sized cooking pans for your use
- Put a lid on top of the pan when cooking
- Use a steamer for vegetables
- Consider using a pressure cooker, or a slow cooker instead of an electric or gas oven. These both considerably reduce food cooking energy
- Make ‘One-pot’ meals in the same pan – using only one ring
- Use your oven efficiently by filling up the space
- Cook two days worth of meals at once
- Use the grill rather than the oven
- Food cooks quicker on the top shelf of a non-fan-assisted oven
- Use an electric kettle for boiling water, keep it free of limescale and don’t over fill it!
- Make toast in a toaster rather than the grill
- Plan ahead – get ready made meals out of the freezer giving time for them to defrost
