If you get a Business Rates bill in March for the full financial year, you have an initial entitlement to pay that bill by 10 equal monthly instalments. Each instalment is due on or before the first day of each month starting in April. If you receive a bill later in the financial year, you will be entitled to fewer instalments, depending on the date.
Please allow sufficient time for your payments to reach us if you pay via the post, a bank, building society or post office. The following methods of payment are available to you.
1. By Direct Debit -
- If your bill states “Payment by Direct Debit”, your payments will be collected on the dates shown and you do not need to contact us.
- This is the easiest and cheapest way for us to receive payments.
- If you wish to change to this method of payment please telephone us on 01283 508416, 508417 or 508418 and we will send you a form. Alternatively you can print off the Direct Debit Instruction form in the forms section, complete and sign and return to us. We must receive the form back at least 14 days before the next instalment is due and all outstanding instalments should be brought up to date.
2. By 24 hour Internet or Telephone using Visa, MasterCard, Switch, Solo or Delta card (Credit cards are subject to a 1.6% administrative fee):
3. BACS, Standing Order, Direct Credit or Internet banking - your bank will need the following information;
- Our Bank is The Royal Bank of Scotland, 38-41 Station St, Burton upon Trent, DE14 1AX
- Our Bank Sort Code is 16-14-70
- Our Bank Account number is 10028206 and the account name is East Staffs Borough Council
- You will also need to quote your Account number, which is shown on the front of your bill.
4. By Post
- You can post payments to the Corporate Services Department at the address overleaf.
- Please write the Account number shown on your bill together with your name and address, on the back of your cheque or postal order, and make payable to “ESBC”.
- Receipts will only be given if a stamped addressed envelope is enclosed with the payment.
5. In Person
From 28th March 2008 you will no longer be able to pay your council tax in person either at the Town Hall or Trent and Dove office at Uttoxeter. You can now pay at Payzone points in 70 outlets within the East Staffordshire area, please see the Outlet Payments Information.
If payment is not received in accordance with your bill, recovery action will be taken. This could result in your right to pay by instalments being cancelled and the balance of the full years charge becoming payable. Details of our recovery action can be found at Business Rates - Reminder page
