 Why Grow Food

Why Grow Food

Food is central to our lives. It is a source of enjoyment and nourishment. We aim to encourage the growing and eating of fresh fruit and vegetables, which taste so much better than those that you buy in the shops.

Allotment gardeners may grow vegetables, flowers and fruit. Some people have even taken on allotments to use as vineyards for making home made wine for their own consumption!

We do not encourage tree growing on a normal allotment plot, as it can cause shade problems to other plots, or give difficulties to future plotholders. Very dwarf fruit trees are available (such as minareftes and stepover trees) and a small number of these may be permitted if permission is sought from the Allotments Association. Specific plots that are unsuitable for letting as vegetable plots may be given permission for use as orchard plots.

Growing your own food is the best way to have healthy fresh fruit and vegetables and also enjoy the benefits of fresh air and exercise!
