Appointment of Independent Person
Under the provisions of the Localism Act 2011, the Council is required to appoint an Independent Person to assist the Council in promoting and maintaining high standards of conduct amongst its councillors and Town/Parish councillors.
The Independent Person will be consulted on decisions to investigate complaints and decisions on complaints which have been investigated. The Independent Person may be consulted on other standards matters, including by potential complaints and the councillor who is subject to an allegation. You will need to be politically neutral, tactful, have good interpersonal and analytical skills and be able to consider complex information.
As an Independent Person, you would normally be appointed for a term of up to four years and receive a small fixed annual allowance for carrying out your duties together with travel and subsistence expenses.
